Vegas: Who UCLA is Watching

Here's a rundown on the recruits UCLA is watching in three different tournaments in Las Vegas, with the July Evaluation Period ending today...

UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland flew into Las Vegas early Saturday morning after spending a day and a half in Kansas City.

He, of course, hit the ground running, being seen at the game of Jordan McLaughlin, the 5-11 junior point guard.

He then took in Dream Vision, featuring 2013 shooting guard Isaac Hamilton, as well as 2014 wing Namon Wright. Dream Vision lost, which ended their July.

He then looked like he check out the game of Mavin Saunders, the 6-6 2014 power forward from Texas.

Assistant Scott Garson watched 2014 forward Stanley Johnson play with his high school team, Mater Dei, in between playing with his AAU team, the Oakland Soldiers.

Howland then attended the game of Devin Williams, the 6-8 2013 post and UCLA target. His team, the Ohio Basketball Club, lost, ending their summer.

Garson watched the Mac Irvin team, which featured the highly-elite 2014 post Jahlil Okafor and 2015 point guard Marcus LoVett from Burbank. Okafor is a complete beast and UCLA is trying to get involved.

Garson then saw Houston Hoops, which features 2014 forward Justise Winslow, who will unofficially visit UCLA August 10th after attending Adidas Nations in Los Angeles.

Howland watched California Supreme and 2013 post and UCLA target Marcus Lee (Parker Jackson-Cartwright, the 2014 point guard, is hurt), and then went down the street to take in the games of Brendan Austin, the talented 2013 wing from Philadelphia, and Kentan Facey, the 6-8 forward from Jamaica, that were playing on two courts side-by-side.

He also had a chance to take in Kameron Chatman, the 2014 small forward from Long Beach Poly.

Garson, at the same time caught the games of Tre'Shaun Lexing, the 6-5 small forward, and Marcus Allen, the 6-2 guard, both in the 2013 class. Both of their teams lost, ending their July.

A UCLA coach then, in the evening attended the remaining games of:

Shaqquan Aaron, 2014 wing
McLaughlin
Johnson
Noah Vonleh, 2014 forward
Winslow
Lee
Dakarai Allen, 2013 wing
Facey
Okafor
LoVett

Today, still alive in the semi-finals of the Adidas Super 64 is Urban DFW (Karviar Shepherd), and Mass Rivals (Vonleh), and the Atlanta Celtics (Tim Quarterman, 2013 wing).

Still alive in the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Classic are California Supreme (Lee), and then Mac Irvin (Okafor, LoVett), who play the Soldiers (Johnson), at the same time on the parallel court as ICP Red (Chatman) against Houston Hoops (Winslow).

The New York Rens (Facey) are still alive, in the quarter-finals of the Fab 48.

Roddy Peters was supposed to play Sunday after sitting out a couple of days due to injury, but his team D.C. Assault lost by a point Saturday and didn't advance.

We'll have a complete wrap on UCLA's recruiting for the July Evaluation Period, with news, notes, evaluations and interviews all coming soon.
