Kelly Shines at GridIron Kings

Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian athlete Jermaine Kelly was one of the last players added to the West squad for GridIron Kings but he may have been the team's best overall performer over the weekend...

Jermaine Kelly, who will likely play corner at UCLA, filled in at receiver for the West and earned all-tournament honors.

"I just feel blessed to have had this opportunity to come out here," Kelly said. "I know I really wasn't supposed to be here and I was a late addition so I was thankful to be here and had a lot of fun. We all obviously wanted to do better and win a few more games but it was still a fun experience and thankfully no one got hurt out here."

Kelly was a big play threat all tournament. He's very explosive off the ball, showed good down field speed and made several acrobatic catches, jumping over opposing defensive backs. There has been some talk that Kelly will be allowed to play both ways for UCLA in college and he definitely showed he has the talent to do so.

As for his commitment to UCLA, Kelly said he was doing his best recruiting job on some of the non-committed players for the West squad.

"I'm still very excited to be a Bruin," Kelly said. "I can't wait to get there and start working with the coaching staff, it's going to be great. I'm still being recruited by other schools and I might still take some visits but I'm very solid with UCLA right now.

"I've been talking to a lot of guys out here and telling them they need to come to UCLA so hopefully it happens. It's a great school and I think the program has a chance to be really good so we'll see how we finish it out."
