Texas OL Byrd Has Faves

He grew up a Bruin fan, and developed a relationship with UCLA coach Eric Bieniemy when he was at Colorado. So how does Texas offensive line prospect Tyrone Byrd feel about the Bruins now?

Tyrone Byrd, 6-5, 260. Fort Bend (Tex.) Hightower, crept onto the radar in early spring, but since then, word has gotten out, and he is getting more recrutiing attention than he ever thought he would.

"It's been amazing. I am getting a lot of letters, have a lot of offers. Its been real cool," Byrd said.

Byrd has 14 offers to date, from UCLA, Miami, Notre Dame, Colorado, Colorado State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas State, Nebraska and Pittsburgh.

"Growing up, UCLA was probably my favorite," Byrd said. " I always talked about going out to California and playing. Coach EB is recruiting me. He seems like a real cool guy. They have been recruiting me for a long time."

Byrd spent the summer going to camps at Oklahoma State and Miami, two other schools who stand atop his list, along with the Bruins. He also is waiting to hear more from the two in-state powerhouses, Texas and Texas A&M.

"My mom would like me to stay in state if I can, and I will consider them both. They send letters, but not much else."

Byrd can play both offensive line and defensive line, but either way, wants to be up front. "As long as it is in the trenches. That's where I want to play."

Byrd could wait until signing day to pull the trigger on a decision. He said, "I'm in no hurry. I want to take my trips before I decide. Of course, a lot could happen till then, but I think I am going to wait."

He said he is carrying a 3.08 GPA.
