UCLA Prospect Recap- Week Zero

A look at how UCLA's commits and recruits did in opening week action, including some big games on the ground for UCLA's offensive line recruits...

Game of the Week: #6 Santa Margarita (Calif.) at #33 Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. (Saturday)
The Eagles offense, which features UCLA commit Erik Bunte and UCLA target Riley Sorenson on the offensive line, tallied 227 of their 476 yards in total offense on the ground, 99 coming from quarterback Johnny Stanton, in the Eagles win over Brophy Prep.  UCLA recruit Devon Allen had three catches for 41 yards and two carries, including a touchdown run, in the loss for Brophy.

Rancho Cucamonga def. Redlands, 40-17
UCLA commit Craig Lee ran for 96 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown in a loss to Rancho Cucamonga.  Rancho Cucamonga linebacker Alani Latu had 12 tackles, safety Tahaan Goodman had 11 tackles and linebacker Viliami Latu had eight tackles in the win for the Cougars.  Jermel Walker, who has interest in UCLA despite being an Oregon State commit, had 29 yards on three catches and scored a touchdown.

La Mirada def. Santa Fe Springs St. Paul, 55-28
La Mirada quarterback Kevin Dillman, a 2015 prospect with a UCLA offer, had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and the Matadores offense ran for over 200 yards. St. Paul junior tight end Darrell Cloy had a touchdown reception while junior running back Kurt Scoby ran for 63 yards on 17 carries in the loss.

Westlake Village Oaks Christian def. Loomis Del Oro, 40-0
Junior quarterbacks Brandon Dawkins threw for 147 yards, on 12-of-16 passing, throwing a touchdown and running for a touchdown in the Lions' rout. Junior running back Chris Davis led the Lions with 93 rushing yards on four attempts, including a 69-yard touchdown.  UCLA commit Cameron Judge had a sack and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the win.

Orange Lutheran def. Long Beach Wilson, 30-22
The Lancers offensive line, which is led by UCLA commit John Lopez, helped pave the way for an impressive 413 yards in their season opening win under new head coach Chuck Petersen.  The Lancers had three players rush for more than 90 yards in the win.

Gardena Serra def. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 26-23
Serra junior quarterback Jalen Greene was 11-for-21 for 97 yards and two touchdowns and the Cavaliers rallied to beat the Knights in their opener.  UCLA recruit Khalfani Muhammad had 128 yards on 23 carries in the loss for the Knights.

Encino Crespi def. Woodland Hills Taft, 43-7
A stingy Crespi defense, featuring UCLA target Tyler Foreman, had no problem with Valley foe Taft, throttling the Toreadors by 36 in their second game of the season.  Foreman and Ray Davison helped limit Taft to 176 yards and two interceptions in the win.

Fresno Central def. Hanford, 44-3
The vaunted Fresno Central secondary didn't miss UCLA target Johnny Johnson, holding Hanford to 59-yards passing with a pair of interceptions, and held Hanford to -38 yards rushing.  It was the Tigers underclassmen who stepped it up, with junior safety Devon Brewer picking off two passes, one he returned for a touchdown, and junior running back Nick Wilson running for 181 yards and three touchdowns.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian and Jermaine Kelly beat Sierra Vista, 22-0 in their opener.  Memphis (Tenn.) East offensive tackle Christian Morris fell to Eads (Tenn.) Briarcrest Christian, 32-20, despite 212 yards rushing.

UCLA Commits Starting This Week
Rialto (Calif.) Carter defensive tackle Kenneth Clark starts this week against Ontario (Calif.) Chaffey.  Fallbrook (Calif.) offensive tackle Sean Dowling gets going this week against Spring Valley (Calif.) Mount Miguel.  Marrieta (Ga.) Lassiter quarterback Eddie Printz starts the season this week against Powder Springs (Ga.) Hillgrove.  Bellevue (Wash.) linebacker Myles Jack begins his season this week against Euless (Texas) Trinity.  Missouri City (Texas) Marshall linebacker Deon Hollins will start his season next week against Houston (Texas) Chavez.
