Willis Takes Surprise Visit to Rose Bowl

Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza Priest Willis took a surprise, last minute unofficial visit to UCLA on Saturday to watch the Bruins host Nebraska at the Rose Bowl...

Priest Willis is one of the elite defensive backs in the West and currently the top-rated cornerback in the region. He has the versatility to play safety in college as well but proved over the spring/summer that he has more than enough athleticism to play the corner position.

The talented prospect made a last-minute decision to get in a car and take road trip to the Rose Bowl this weekend.

"It was crazy there, I had a great time," Willis said. "The whole visit didn't come about until late Friday night. One of my coaches said he was driving down and asked if I wanted to come with him and I said 'Sure, lets do it.' We left around 4:00 in the morning and I was a little tired but I rallied.

"I talked to Coach (Jim) Mora a little before the game and it was cool getting down on the field before game time. Nebraska fans took over one whole side of the stadium but the UCLA crowd was still pretty crazy. It was loud in there and I was really impressed with how they looked on both sides of the ball. You can see a pretty dramatic difference in how UCLA looks compared to the past few seasons."

Willis said he was paying special attention to the defense and specifically the secondary for both programs.

"That No. 3 (Randall Goforth) for UCLA was real good, especially for a true freshman," Willis said. "No. 3 for Nebraska (Daimion Stafford) played really well too. The UCLA defense really stepped up in the second half and I like how aggressive they play, Coach Mora really attacks from all over.

"It was also good to see Brett (Hundley) play well, he's going to be a special player. I talked to his pops before the game, I know him real well and he's a great guy. After the game, I went in to the locker room and the team was real hyped. I hung out with (Defensive Backs) Coach (Demetrice) Martin for a while and just had a really good time there. I've been to UCLA a few times now but this was my first time watching them play a game and overall it was a great experience."

Willis said he's really focusing on his season right now but does have a few official trips planned.

"I'm going to Notre Dame in two weeks," Willis said. "I'm also going to Nebraska and LSU. I was going to narrow my list down to seven last weekend but I really can't right now. I haven't given recruiting a lot of thought because I don't want to cheat my team.

"We're looking real good early and my main focus is on them right now. I know I'll take all five trips but don't know about the last two. I know it will be to a school that I haven't seen before, but other than that I really don't know."
