Dawkins Takes In Nebraska Game

The 2014 quarterback from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, Brandon Dawkins, talked about being at the UCLA-Nebraska game on Saturday...

Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian junior quarterback Brandon Dawkins has had no problem adjusting to the offense under new head coach Jeff Woodruff.

Through three games, Dawkins has gone 52-for-69 for 719 yards and six touchdowns, despite rarely playing in the second half, with the Lions rolling to a 3-0 start. He's also run for a pair of touchdowns.

One of the top 2014 prospects in the West, Dawkins has two offers, from Notre Dame and Utah, but several more schools have been in contact with him.

"Since September 1st, I've gotten a lot of mail," said Dawkins. "Most of the Pac-12 has been writing me and Alabama has written me four handwritten letters. Coach (Doug) Nussmeier is recruiting me there."

Dawkins was at UCLA's home opener this past weekend against Nebraska, two of his former offensive teammates, Ishmael Adams and Jordan Payton, playing for the Bruins.

"The game was a lot of fun and it was a good atmosphere there," said Dawkins. "They threw a lot, but really incorporated the run into their offense. I've talked with Coach (Adrian) Klemm a lot and he told me they're really interested so hopefully they'll offer soon."

Oregon has also been standing out to Dawkins.

"I like what they run and the way they use their quarterback to not just throw, but to run too," said Dawkins.

In fact, offenses where he can show his dual-threat ability are ones standing out to him.

"I don't want to go somewhere where it's a singular type of offense, but one where I can showcase all of my talents. If a pass isn't open, then I can get out. If there is nowhere to run, then I'll throw. I'm an elusive player," Dawkins said.

The Irish and Utes got on the board with Dawkins first in the spring.

"Coach (Mike) Denbrock is recruiting me for Notre Dame and he and I talk a lot and Coach (Brian) Johnson from Utah, he hits me up on email all the time," said Dawkins.

Alabama, where his family is originally from, stands out to Dawkins quite a bit, and he visited there this summer.

"When I went up to Alabama, Coach (Nick) Saban said he doesn't really offer quarterbacks this early, but that they would definitely be showing a lot of interest in me," said Dawkins.

Since Dawkins has 17 months until he can sign somewhere, he doesn't see the need to rush anything in his recruitment.

"Right now, I really have no clue about where I want to go," said Dawkins. "I only have two offers, but hopefully more will come in. I'll probably narrow it down to five by spring, if not earlier, and call the other schools off. Then when I get it to those five, I'll keep it on those and do a lot of research and go wherever I feel the most comfortable."

This weekend, Dawkins and Oaks Christian will take on West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade.
