Though UCLA hasn't been a front runner as of late for the 6-foot-4, 255-pound prospect, he was very impressed with what he saw on the field.
"The game was really exciting. It was real cool seeing how UCLA is now. Last year, they were nowhere close to how they look this season, and you can tell. It was really cool to see them do well on Saturday against Nebraska," he said.
Mathis also had the opportunity to check out the Bruins during the Spring and can see a significant improvement on team since those practices.
"When I went to the spring practices, I knew the team had gotten better, but I didn't know that they were going to be that good, the way they looked this weekend. I didn't think the game was going to be like that!" he said.
Mathis also mentioned that the defense looked "really good."
He's made it clear that he won't be narrowing down his list to a top five anytime soon, and plans on taking all five official visits before making a decision.
