Covering the Big Time basketball tournament in Las Vegas, it was an unexpected surprise to run across one of the best football prospects playing basketball in the tourney. Zach Latimer, 6-2, 215, Aurora (Col.) Gateway, played point guard for one of the Colorado AAU teams, and is actually a pretty decent basketball player. But his college future is on the football field.
"Yeah, I love both sports," Latimer said. "But I'm getting recruited for football."
Latimer said he's still wide open and considering all of his college options. He did list Miami, Oklahoma, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Texas, Purdue, Colorado and Nebraska as schools he's definiely considering.
Latimer said he's been so busy, though, that he really hasn't had a chance to think much about recruiting, or narrowing down his list. "I really haven't thought much about it. Whether I want to stay close to home or not. I don't think it would bother me to go away. I'm not getting any pressure to stay close to home. I haven't even thought about when I would commit."
Latimer did say, though, that he was sure he was going to take as many official visits as possible. "It's a great opportunity," he said. "To go and see the schools. That will really help me make a decision."
He has a 3.1 GPA and will be taking the ACT this fall.
