UCLA Prospect Recap -- Week Three

A look at how UCLA's commits and recruits did in week three action...

Game of the Week: Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian def. West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade, 44-30
The Lions jumped out to a 36-8 lead, before Chaminade made things interested and at least made the score respectable.  2014 QB Brandon Dawkins was 20-for-36 for 256 yards and three touchdown passes and three interceptions and ran for 61 yards.  UCLA commit Cameron Judge had 11 tackles and caught two 2-point conversions for the Lions.  Three-star running back Terrell Newby ran for 211 yards on 42 carries and a pair of touchdowns in the loss.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian def. Pasadena (Calif.), 35-6
Salesian got another big game from UCLA commit Jermaine Kelly, who had three catches for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 68-yarder, and also chipped in two tackles.  Quarterback Jihad Vercher was 11-for-16 for 216 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 70 yards and a score.  2014 prospects Rodney Carr and Jamardre Cobb added 15 and seven tackles respectively.

Fresno (Calif.) Central def. Visalia (Calif.) El Diamante, 42-7
The vaunted Fresno Central secondary gave up just 60 yards passing, with 40 coming on a screen play, and the Tigers knocked off a top 10 team in El Diamante.  Junior receiver Michiah Quick, who has a UCLA offer, had seven receptions for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns and junior running back Nick Wilson ran for 115 yards and a pair of touchdowns. 

Corona (Calif.) Centennial def. Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany, 36-32
Centennial, featuring two UCLA offerees, 2014 offensive lineman Viane Talamaivoa, the SoCal Nike Camp OL MVP, and 2013 offensive lineman Cameron Hunt, the NorCal Nike Camp OL MVP, ran for 426 yards in an impressive game on the ground, upsetting Alemany in a non-league game.

Redlands (Calif.) def. Palm Desert, 26-13
UCLA commit Craig Lee ran for 105 yards and a touchdown and the Terriers won their third game in a row, with Lee going over the century mark for the third straight game.

Bellevue (Wash.) def. Sammamish (Wash.), 69-0
UCLA commit Myles Jack scored on both sides of the ball, scoring one touchdown after recovering a fumble by Sammamish in the end zone and also scoring on a 57-yard touchdown run en route to a 100-yard rushing night, and the Wolverines shut out the Totems.

Orange (Calif.) Lutheran def. La Habra (Calif.), 27-7
Featuring UCLA commit John Lopez on the offensive line, the Lancers ran for 318 yards and three touchdowns, in another ground-centric performance for the Lancers.

Rialto (Calif.) Carter def. Lake Elsinore (Calif.) Lakeside, 54-16
UCLA verbal Kenneth Clark had six tackles and two sacks, and Carter continued its strong start, though it gave up its first points of the 2012 season.

Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan def. Compton (Calif.) Dominguez, 41-13
UCLA target John Ross was everywhere for Jordan, returning a punt 60 yards, catching a 55-yard touchdown pass and also throwing a 25-yard scoring pass to Rahshead Johnson.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei def. Santa Monica, 51-0
Bruin tight end recruit Thomas Duarte racking up a pair of sacks and catching five passes for 65-yards and a touchdown. 

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Memphis (Tenn.) East offensive tackle Christian Morris, a UCLA commit, defeated Memphis (Tenn.) Hamilton, 35-6.  UCLA verbal Kenny Lacy and Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe topped Sierra Vista (Ariz.) Buena, 58-7.  Missouri City (Texas) Marshall linebacker Deon Hollins topped Alief (Texas) Elsik, 15-14.  Fallbrook (Calif.) offensive tackle Sean Dowling lost to Riverside Arlington, 13-0.

Other UCLA Recruits in Action
Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza and Priest Willis beat Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry, 21-7.   San Clemente and offensive lineman Sean Harlow beat Encinitas La Costa Canyon and Scott Quessenberry, 21-10.  Rancho Verde, led by UCLA target Poasi Moala (who's still committed to Washington) and four-star receiver Demorea Stringfellow, hit the road to play Las Vegas HS, winning 35-28.
