Top 5 For 2014 Elite Prospect

Namon Wright, one of the elite wings in west for 2014, says schools from the Mountain West, WCC and Pac-12 are among his leaders...

Namon Wright, 6-3 JR SG Los Angeles (Calif.) Pacific Hills, is a prototype two guard with a considerable amount of talent. Wright has the size, athleticism and skill level that coaches look for in a high major shooting guard. He's also got a terrific feel and approach to the game.

I spoke with Wright recently and asked about the schools that are recruiting him.

"UNLV, UCLA, UC Irvine, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, Utah, USC, New Mexico State, Pepperdine and Arizona," said Wright. "Arizona said they're coming out to see me next week."

When asked which schools have offered, Wright replied, "Gonzaga, Utah, USC, Oregon and New Mexico State."

I asked Wright if any schools stand out for him at this time.

"USC, Gonzaga, Arizona, UNLV and UCLA," said Wright.

Wright talked a little about the factors he's looking at when picking a school.

"A combination of athletics and academics," said Wright. "Nice weather, not too cold, and someplace where they get up and down."

Wright has taken one unofficial visit to USC and I asked him for his impressions.

"It's more than you think," said Wright. "Growing up in L.A., everyone wants to go to USC for football or basketball. It's really unbelievable. I liked the coaching staff a lot."

Wright said he's in the process of figuring out more visits.

"I'm supposed to go this month to UCLA," said Wright. "They've been coming to my practices and texting me. And Arizona, UNLV, Gonzaga and Utah all want me to come, but they're all kind of far away to visit."

Wright said he's not sure yet about the timing of his decision. He said he has a 3.4 GPA.
