Dowling Talks on Oklahoma Visit

Fallbrook (Calif.) offensive lineman Sean Dowling committed last summer to UCLA but said he'll take all five of his official visits. He checked out Washington State last weekend and was at Oklahoma this past weekend...

Friday night, we had a chance to check out Sean Dowling in action when his Fallbrook squad took on a solid San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills team. Dowling has a nice frame and looks all of 6-5 maybe even 6-6. He has lost some weight since the summer and adding some mass, especially in his upper body, is a big thing he'll need to work on to compete at the next level.

"I just have a really fast metabolism and it's tough for me to keep weight on," Dowling said. "I've lost about 10 pounds since the season started. I just don't have as much time to lift and eat. After my junior season, I weighed around 285 pounds and was training like crazy. I just need to get back to that and I'll be fine."

Dowling is a solid pass blocker and moves his feet well. He can be bull rushed a bit and isn't as dominant as he should be in run blocking but again, that has a lot to do with his current size and lacking as much as strength as he should have. Once he gets to college, it will be interesting to see Dowling develop physically as he matures and can spend time in a college weight room.

"I'm going to be graduating early and will enroll at UCLA in time for spring practice," Dowling said. "I talk to Coach Klemm all the time and one of the big selling points for me at UCLA is the chance to play early. If I have to redshirt so I can spend the extra time getting bigger and stronger, that's fine too.

"I'll do whatever is needed to help out the team. Right now, they have me pegged for right tackle but again, I think I'm versatile enough to play anywhere, I just want to help out the team. I would like to be about 275 pounds by the time I get to college and I think I have the frame to hold about 295 pounds or so."

As for his recent visit to Oklahoma, Dowling said he loved the visit but added he's still very solid with the Bruins.

"I had a great time, they have a dominant football program for sure," Dowling said. "It was cool to watch them play and specifically the offensive line. The fans are nuts there and I say that in a good way. I had never been to Oklahoma before so I really didn't know what to expect but I loved it there.

"They have a great campus, and a great support staff for the football players. I'm still solid with UCLA but the trip did give me some stuff to think about. I still want to visit Oregon State and Vanderbilt and my last visit will be to UCLA. My family really wanted me to take all my visits, they actually thought I committed too early but I knew I wanted to be a Bruin. I'm going to the USC game for sure and my official visit will probably be after the season.
