UCLA Prospect Recap -- Week Eight

A look at how UCLA's commits and recruits did in week eight action...

Game of the Week: Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw def. Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey, 34-14
With UCLA commit Mossi Johnson picking off a pass, and Utah commit Dominique Hatfield picking off a pair, including one for a touchdown, Crenshaw topped their archrivals, Dorsey, by 20, to stay unbeaten in Coliseum League play.

Redlands (Calif.) def. Redlands (Calif.) East Valley, 41-37
Despite an injury ending his night early, Redlands running back Craig Lee, a UCLA pledge, ran for 255 yards on 23 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, and Redlands got their first victory over their crosstown rivals since 2006.  Lee's shoulder injury turned out to be a bruise, and x-rays were negative.

Portland (Ore.) Jesuit def. Beaverton (Ore.) Aloha, 56-13
With UCLA assistant coach Marques Tuiasosopo in attendance, running back Thomas Tyner, the Oregon commit, ran for a season-low 88 yards and two touchdowns.  Joey Alfieri and Henry Mondeaux, both juniors from Jesuit with interest in UCLA, each had a pick and a touchdown in the win.

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco def. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, 27-19
The Braves stayed unbeaten on the field, outlasting Mater Dei in the win.  UCLA target Thomas Duarte had just three catches for 20 yards but recorded a sack.

Santa Margarita (Calif.) def. Orange (Calif.) Lutheran, 17-14
Featuring UCLA commit John Lopez on the offensive line, the Lancers were held to their lowest rushing total of the year, 118 yards, and lost by three to the defending state champion Eagles.

Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde def. Riverside (Calif.) J.W. North
Rancho Verde, led by UCLA commit Poasi Moala and four-star receiver Demorea Stringfellow, topped North and Ohio State bound Marcus Baugh.

Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial def. Phoenix (Ariz.) O'Connor, 49-7
Centennial led by UCLA running back commit, Jalen Ortiz, had no problem with O'Connor, getting almost 100 yards in offense from Ortiz, who just played a half.

Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe def. Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain View, 51-6
UCLA commit, offensive lineman Kenny Lacy, and UCLA 2014 offer target Jalen Brown, one of the top receivers in the West, moved to 8-1 on the 2012 season rolling Mountain View.

Bellevue (Wash.) def. Renton (Wash.) Liberty, 49-11
With UCLA head coach Jim Mora in attendance, Bellevue and Bruin verbal Myles Jack had another blowout win, Jack getting two sacks in the rout.

Rialto (Calif.) Carter def. San Gorgonio (Calif.), 49-14
UCLA verbal Kenneth Clark had five tackles and two sacks to keep Carter unbeaten this season.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly def. Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan, 54-16
Jayon Brown, a UCLA commit, had a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Jackrabbits win over Millikan.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian and UCLA commit Jermaine Kelly beat Panorama City (Calif.) St. Genevieve, 62-7.  Encinitas (Calif.) La Costa Canyon and commit Scott Quessenberry topped Vista (Calif.), 21-0.  Fallbrook (Calif.) offensive tackle Sean Dowling lost to San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills, 35-0.  Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian and UCLA commit Cameron Judge beat Calabasas (Calif.), 47-21.  Memphis (Tenn.) East offensive tackle Christian Morris fell to Memphis (Tenn.) Craigmont, 28-27. Missouri City (Texas) Marshall linebacker Deon Hollins beat Tomball (Texas) Memorial, 56-10.
