"UCLA offered probably 11 days ago," he said. "I started talking to them a week or two prior to that. I first talked to Coach (Scott) White, who said he has seen no better receiver than me out there.
"He wanted to show the whole staff my film - all at one time so they would go ahead and offer."
A few days later, UCLA came through with the offer.
"Coach White told me that Monday to give them a shout on Thursday," Dupre explained. "I talked with Coach (Eric) Yarber, the wide receivers coach. UCLA decided to offer after the staff watched only a few minutes of my film.
"I told them I actually visited UCLA during the summer when I was in the city with my Adidas (AAU) basketball team. The coaches didn't know that, and they were glad I had already made it out. They're ready for me to go back and visit again."
LSU is one of several offers for Dupre, a multi-sport standout who wowed head coach Les Miles and staff at the Tigers' July camp. He has a 41-inch vertical.
The junior has hauled in a team-high 20 receptions for 347 yards with five touchdowns for the Patriots - ranked second in the nation by this network. Director of Scouting Scott Kennedy compiles the top 50 for FOX Sports NEXT.
While John Curtis is primarily recognized for its prowess running the pigskin out of the split-back veer, the coaching staff has made good on the preseason premise that more passes would fly in 2012.
Dupre is averaging 17.35 yards per catch. His presence as a home-run threat (along with the accurate passing of QBs Patrick Morton and Abby Touzet) has kept defenses from overloading the box.
