Of course, for the recruitniks, that means a just as exciting recruiting season leading up to Signing Day in February.
One of the biggest weeks of the recruiting season is the All-Star game week, when dozens of recruits announce their decisions, mostly during the telecasts of the game. UCLA has the potential to be a very often-mentioned school for those telecasts this year, with many UCLA prospects participating in the various games.
In fact, the Semper Fi All-American Game and the Under Armour All-American Game are on the same day, Friday, January 4th, and UCLA has upward of 24 prospects that it is heavily involved with or still recruiting playing in those games. A number of those prospects are already verbally committed to UCLA, and there are some UCLA isn't recruiting as aggressively as it once was. There could be up to 10 or so UCLA is recruiting heavily that could announce their decisions that day.
Then, the U.S. Army Bowl is the next day, Saturday, January 5th, and four more UCLA prospects are participating in that game, a couple of which could also announce during the game's telecast.
In the course of about 24 hours, UCLA could know the decisions of roughly 12 recruits. It's clearly a big two-day period for UCLA's 2013 recruiting.
Here are the games and the UCLA prospects playing in them:
Offense/Defense All-American Game (December 30th, 5:00 PST, Comcast Sports, Direct TV Channel 696, Telecast time TBD)
Caleb Benenoch -- UCLA-committed OL.
Pierre Cormier -- San Diego running back that could take a visit to UCLA.
Mossi Johnson -- UCLA-committed WR/DB.
Under Armour All-American Game (Jan. 4th, 2:00 p.m. PT, ESPN)
Priest Willis -- signs still indicate he's leaning to UCLA, and he's announcing during the game.
Isaac Savaiinaea -- The elite linebacker prospect said he'll pick between UCLA and Texas A&M and announce at the game.
Demorea Stringfellow -- receiver prospect committed to Washington that is now considering UCLA.
Carl Lawson -- the elite defensive end committed to Auburn has indicated he'll visit UCLA.
Sebastian LaRue -- UCLA probably not recruiting him anymore.
Semper Fi All-American Game (Jan. 4th, 6:00 PT, NFL Network, Home Depot Center)
Devon Allen -- probably won't announce at this game, but slight chance.
John Ross -- He'll have all of his planned visits completed, including UCLA's, and could announce.
Johnny Johnson -- UCLA is leading, and the thought is he could wait until his UCLA visit Jan. 18th to announce, or he could make it public at the game to boost UCLA momentum.
Thomas Duarte -- The tight end probably won't announce at the game because he'll still have visits to take.
Corn Elder -- The Tennessee running back will still have visits to take.
Danny Mattingly -- committed to Notre Dame, it's unknown if he'll stick. Rumors were that, if he went elsewhere, it would be to UCLA.
Braydon Kearsley -- The Oregon OL will visit UCLA in January.
Deon Hollins -- Considered a soft verbal, because he'll visit other schools.
Kenny Lacy -- Considered a soft verbal, because he'll visit other schools.
Guys of Mild UCLA Interest:
Erik Bunte -- OL currently committed to UCLA but will ultimately end up elsewhere.
L.J. Moore -- Fresno corner that UCLA has cooled on a bit.
Hatari Byrd -- safety committed to Oklahoma.
Keishawn Bierria -- A player who, if he impresses in the game, could make UCLA notice.
Daquan Brown -- Dorsey DB that UCLA is still showing some interest.
U.S. Army All-American Game (Jan. 5th, 10:00 a.m. PT, NBC)
Tahaan Goodman -- UCLA is doing really well with him right now. He has said he'll announce at the game, but could pop sooner.
