Hollins Set to Take His Visits

FOX Sports NEXT is in the streets this fall to bring you all the coverage from across the Midlands region. Recently, we caught up with Marshall outside linebacker Deon Hollins Jr. from Missouri City, Texas. He won the Defensive Player of the Year, which is given by the Touchdown Club of Houston. While there, we got a quick word on what his recruiting plans are...

It started by being named as the Dave Campbell's preseason defensive player of the year. Now, Missouri City (Tex.) Marshall defensive end/outside linebacker Deon Hollins has followed up with a similar award, this time in the postseason.

At the Touchdown Club of Houston Awards Dinner, Hollins was named the best defender in the area by taking home the coveted award.

"I like to say to say it the perfect icing on the cake, but we didn't win the state championship. It's high up there though," Hollins said of winning his award last Wednesday night.

Now the focus has shifted for the 6-foot-2, 222-pound Hollins, after being bounced from the state playoffs in the fourth round. With more than national Top 25 colleges looking to get him on campus for next fall, it is now time to mentally and physically prepare for the next level.

"It's time to move on. My dad is going to hire a personal trainer to work with me, you know former college and NFL guys," Hollins said. "You know when you train with the best, you can be the best."

That has been proven many times over as Hollins is known for being one of the top pass rushers in the country. This past season, once again, logged more than 20 sacks and even more quarterback hurries. Either way, Hollins is in the backfield for most of the game despite double teams and offensive lineman consistently holding him.

With the season over, the UCLA commit will now start to take some visits. He has named a number of them throughout the fall, but now has some dates for his for-sure visits.

"I'm pretty much now going to take the rest of my official visits so that I can make a conscientious decision. We plan to take all five," Hollins said. "Right now, my confirms are Notre Dame (January 11-13) and UCLA (January 18-20)."

Hollins also mentioned taking an official to Arizona State before the year is out, but didn't have the exact date.

Many fan bases are waiting word to see what Hollins eventually chooses in the end. And while some may be a little restless in knowing what the final call will be, Hollins wants things to be done in order as he controls it.

"You know, I'm just taking things in strides. I want to be patient and make the right choice," Hollins said.
