Willis Still a Bruin

Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza defensive back Priest Willis confirms his commitment to UCLA and his intent to sign with the Bruins...

After a hectic day, in which there was some confusion whether Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza defensive back Priest Willis would sign with UCLA this week, the five star prospect laid the worries of many UCLA fans to rest Wednesday morning.

"I can't sign unfortunately," Willis said to Scout's Inna Lazarev, "If (my mom) was here, I'd be signing (for UCLA) today. I'm 100% Bruin. This is my school, and I'll be attending there next year. There is nothing to worry about."

Willis intends to sign his National Letter of Intent later this week once his mother returns home.

"I'm a mama's boy," Willis said.

The confusion about signing stemmed from the fact that Willis' mother is out of town until Thursday. Assuming that both he and his mother needed to be present to sign the letter, Willis told reporters that he likely wasn't going to sign on Wednesday.

Willis just committed to UCLA two weeks ago, with his friend and fellow defensive back Tahaan Goodman, and he was actually thought to be a heavy UCLA lean for some time prior to his commitment.

The 6'2, 190 pound prospect figures to compete for immediate playing time in the young and inexperienced defensive back field. Despite his size, there is some thought that Willis has the capability of playing cornerback in addition to the safety position that his size would seemingly dictate.

He joins a loaded defensive back class that includes Goodman, four star safety Tyler Foreman, four star cornerback Johnny Johnson, and three star (greyshirt) Mossi Johnson.
