West Recruiting Notes

It has been a very active week in terms of new scholarship offers going out and it's only Wednesday. Here's a look at some of the latest buzz going down out West.

*Long Beach Poly (Calif.) athlete Juju Smith picked up scholarship offers from California and Arizona State. Smith has the ability to play receiver and safety in college but has been telling some schools he prefers to play on defensive side of the ball. He looks like a top five prospect in the west right now.

*Gardena (Calif.) Serra defensive back Adoree Jackson landed offers from Arizona and Tennessee. Like Smith, Jackson has a chance to be a top five prospect in the west and will compete for the honor as the nation's top corner prospect as well.

*Staying with the ‘top five prospect in the west' theme, Oakley (Calif.) Freedom running back Joe Mixon is definitely in the running and looks like the top back in the region. He's landing new offers by the day with Notre Dame, Auburn and Clemson all rolling in this week.

*Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama will be one of potentially six or seven Braves players to sign Div I next year. Arizona State and Hawaii are his most recent offers and join Washington State, who offered over the weekend. The big guard prospect is now at double digits with 10 total offers.

*Mama's Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco teammate Naijel Hale is establishing himself as one of the state's premier corners. Nebraska and Washington State offered this week joining a weekend offer from California. Look for that list to grow rapidly in the coming weeks.

*Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive back and Arizona State commit Jaleel Wadood continues to pull in new offers landing one over the weekend from Cal. Wadood said he remains firmly committed to the Sun Devils but will take his official visits in the fall.

*Last Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco note, defensive end Malik Dorton was offered this week by Washington State. Dorton plans to attend USC's Junior Day this weekend but UCLA remains the team to beat in this one.

*El Cerrito (Calif.) has a pair of teammates in linebacker D.J. Calhoun and defensive back Adarius Picket that are racking up offers as well. Washington State offered both players this week, No. 8 for Calhoun and No. 5 for Pickett.

*Florida is the latest offer for Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure tight end Bryce Dixon. Dixon now has eight total offers and will head to USC this weekend for the Trojans Junior Day.

*Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian linebacker Jamardre Cobb had a good week landing offers from Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Cobb is easily among the top ‘backer prospects in the west region.

*Cobb's Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian teammate Marquis Ware was also offered by Texas Tech and Texas A&M called to say their offer was now coming at tight end. Ware has the ability to play linebacker, tight end or even bulk up in to a defensive end in college.

*La Mirada (Calif.) receiver Dallis Todd landed offer No. 12 this week from Texas A&M. It's amazing to see Todd's stock soar nationwide and equally surprising that among his 12 offers, only one is out of the Pac 12, Arizona State.

*Nebraska came in to Southern California this past year and stole one of the top backs in the region in Terrell Newby. The Huskers will try to make it back to back years after offering Palmdale (Calif.) running back Demario Richard Wednesday.

*Fresno (Calif.) Central defensive tackle Tashon Smallwood landed an offer from Miami. Notre Dame is showing strong interest and don't be surprised if USC offers at their Junior Day this weekend.
