Big Weekend for Big Receiver

Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks wide out Alex Van Dyke is one of the top pass catchers in the state and could be closing in on a couple of big scholarship offers...

Alex Van Dyke is a big 6-4, 205 pound receiver with the kind of frame that will hold another 15 pounds or so without losing any speed. Van Dyke had a solid junior season catching 44 balls for 864 yards and 10 touchdowns and his stock is starting to take off.

"Everyone who has come by the school loves him," Cosumnes Oaks coach Ryan Gomez said. "Cal and Northwestern offered real early and now he has offers from Nevada, Fresno State, Colorado State, Utah and Idaho. Colorado is real close as well and several other programs sound like they're on the verge.

"This Saturday, we'll be taking an unofficial visit to UCLA and then we'll be at USC for Junior Day. I know USC is real high on him and it sounds like they could offer at Junior Day. UCLA sounds very close as well and just needs to have the WR coach sign off on it before putting it out there. It's definitely a pretty exciting time for Alex."

Van Dyke is a three-sport athlete who also participates in basketball and track. As a result, he hasn't been able to attend any of the big football events in the spring/summer.

"Alex is really strong in track," Gomez said. "He runs the 200, 400 and both relays. That's why he hasn't been able to attend any of the NIKE Camps in the past. He's an elite talent for sure though, one of the best players I've coached with a 3.8 GPA to go with it. I think he can play for just about anyone, no doubt about it."
