Bruins On Top for Calhoun

The El Cerrito (Calif.) linebacker, D.J. Calhoun, continues to maintain the Bruins as his leader leader...

El Cerrito (Calif.) linebacker D.J. Calhoun (6-1, 200), made his second visit to the Southland in three weeks this past weekend, tripping to USC for the Trojans' Junior Day on Sunday.

"It was real nice and I liked it there a lot," said Calhoun. "The coaches have a real good relationship with the players and they really stressed the academics."

Calhoun got an opportunity to meet newly hired linebackers coach Mike Ekeler, who was only in Los Angeles for a couple of days.

"We met the new linebackers coach and got to talk with him and he seems like a cool guy," said Calhoun. "He doesn't really know a whole lot about me since he just got there but he said he would check me out. They told me they liked me a lot, but said I need to come to their camp before I get an offer. I'm still interested in them, but we'll see."

Calhoun, though, said he does have a leader, and they've offered him.

"UCLA is still my top school," said Calhoun. "They offered me on the spot at the Arizona game (in November), and I really loved it at their Junior Day and they offer a good opportunity for me."

Calhoun's sister plays basketball at USC, and he and his father got a chance to see her before her game on Sunday. He said that playing nearby her is something that he's interested in.

Boasting offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Nebraska, Utah, Washington and Washington State, Calhoun will be taking another unofficial visit this next weekend to a Pac-12 school, nearby California.

"I'm going over to Cal this weekend to meet with the coaches and check out the school," said Calhoun.
