Jermaine Eluemunor knew Penn State coach Bill O'Brien was going to call him today. He just didn't think it would be before the sun rose.
Eluemunor didn't mind, though.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive tackle from Lackawanna College (Scranton, Pa.) picked up his latest offer on what is now an impressive offer list when the Nittany Lions extended one during the phone call.
"I didn't expect them to call me at 6 a.m.," Eluemunor said. "I guess they really liked me if they were going to call me at 6 a.m. It means a lot to me. They only offer the best of the best people. For me, it means a lot."
Eluemunor, who prepped at Morris Knolls High in Morristown, N.J., move to the United States from London in 2008. He said he was raw in football and no schools recruited him out of high school so he went the junior college route.
He chose Lackawanna because of coach Mark Duda's reputation for developing offensive linemen, and it's worked well.
Eluemunor also holds offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, East Carolina, Florida State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA and West Virginia, and more should be coming his way.
"The recruiting process is crazy so I'm taking it one step at a time," Eluemunor said. "I didn't get anything in high school. I came here hoping for the best, expecting the worst.
"I'm looking at every single school. As soon as I reach 20 offers I'm probably going to stop there and get it back down to 10 and then I'll go from there."
Eluemunor added he has never set foot on the campus of a four-year school, nor has he been to a FBS football game.
"I was talking to coach O'Brien, and he said next week they're going on vacation but the week after that they start spring ball," Eluemunor said. "So, I'm probably going to go up there for spring ball since it's so close."
He was also blown away by the Penn State offer.
"I was watching some Penn State videos a week ago, but I didn't think I would get one because they have the whole scholarship reduction thing," he said. "I thought you had to be a very special player to get offered by them, and then my high school coach hit me up last night and told me that Penn State called him and asked about me."
However, Eluemunor does not have any leaders.
"All these schools think highly of me," he said, "so I'm just really grateful for all these schools to give me a scholarship to play for their team so I can carry on my career and carry on my journey."
