Power forward Craig Victor is one of the top prospects in the class of 2014. The New Orleans (La.) St Augustine product is having a good junior season, and is keeping a close eye on his recruitment as well.
Victor knew he would have to lead his team this year with huge personnel losses from last season, and he feels the season has gone well.
"We have our third round playoff game (tonight), and we have had an up and down season, but we are clicking right now," said Victor. "We lost six seniors off of last year's team and I was the only returning starter, so we are just trying to get back to state."
He continued, "I think I have had a real good season. I have been working hard and I am leading the team in a lot of things other than just points, like steals, rebounding, and assists. We finished the season 23-9 and I just wanted to do anything I could to help the team win."
When it comes to recruiting, no shortage of schools are in the mix.
"Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Georgetown, North Carolina State have all been by in the last three to four weeks," said Victor.
In terms of any visits, Victor said, "Right before school started I went to UCLA, and I went to Arizona this month, and then I plan on going to Florida and Miami when I get a chance."
According to Victor the trip to Tucson was a good one, and he liked what he saw from Arizona.
"I liked the environment," said Victor of Arizona. "The fact that there are no pro teams out there, nothing is bigger than Arizona basketball and I like that. The fans are very supportive night in and night out, and I really like what Coach (Sean) Miller is doing. His players get better every year, and you could see that with Derrick Williams who made a huge improvement and became the second pick in the draft."
He continued, "I like what they are doing over there, especially with their four men. Their fours are very versatile from playing on the perimeter to posting up. They showed that with Derrick Williams, Solomon Hill, and also Brandon Ashley."
Victor wants to get to Miami for a visit soon, and he says he liked the Hurricanes even before this breakout season.
"I was actually talking to them before this season even started, and for them to blow up like that was just a good feeling," Victor explained. "For them to blowup like that was just kind of a coincidence because I was talking to them before the season, but it is real good for them and I do think they can get more recruits now."
In terms of his interest in Florida, Victor said, "Their coaches came to visit last year, and they have a good program that is always getting better. Also the class they have coming in next year with Kasey Hill and Chris Walker is going to be something special. They recruit well every year, and that is another thing I like about Florida."
With UCLA, Victor liked his time in Westwood, and says the future is bright for the Bruins.
"They are getting down here as much as possible," said Victor of UCLA. "They have good talent. Even though their season hasn't gone like everybody expected they have good talent, and at one point I believe they will start clicking. I know Shabazz (Muhammad) probably won't be there next year, but I think they will have Jordan (Adams), Kyle (Anderson), Tony Parker, and all of those guys back and that will be a good look for them in the upcoming years."
For now Victor says he is focused on winning a state title and going through the AAU season, and no college decision is likely to come before that.
