"I talked with Coach (Andy) Buh and he told me he wanted to meet me on Monday, because he liked how I play and he wanted to get to know me more," said Lazarus. "He said he wanted to put an offer on the table."
Lazarus was thrilled to get the good news from Buh.
"I was just really excited to get that first offer," said Lazarus. "I've been watching them and going to their games for a while, so it was real exciting."
But Lazarus stopped short of saying the hometown school was the favorite.
"Truthfully, I grew up being an Oregon Ducks fan and they're a high caliber team who I'm waiting to get an offer from," said Lazarus. "But I'm keeping my options open."
Aside from Cal and Oregon, a few other schools are showing interest in the Scout 300 prospect.
Lazarus can play either linebacker spot, but has a preference.
"I prefer to play inside, but whatever, inside or outside, either position works, I just love to hit," said Lazarus.
Lazarus plans to camp at the Oakland NFTC this spring with his goal to make it to The Opening.
He'll visit Cal this weekend for Junior Day.
Academically, he'll take the SAT and ACT both in the spring.
