Cornerback High on UCLA

Compton (Calif.) Centennial cornerback Denzel Fisher hasn't received an offer yet, but after an MVP performance at the NFTC, Fisher could see some increased interest from local schools, including UCLA...

Compton (Calif.) Centennial cornerback Denzel Fisher had a great day at the Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday, pulling down defensive back MVP honors for his play during the 7 on 7 and 1 on 1 periods. Fisher is long and lean at a legitimate 6'1, 170, and moves really well for his size.

He said afterward that he enjoyed the challenge of facing off against high level receivers in the event.

"It's good for me because I can go back to my school and work on what I learned here," Fisher said. "It'll help me do better in my senior season, and also help me when I go through more camps."

Fisher, a three star, is hopeful that his play on Sunday will earn him some more looks from colleges, as recruiting has been pretty lean thus far.

"I'm really just getting interest from UCLA right now," Fisher said. "I'm hungry for more. I'm hungry for offers, but I haven't gotten any yet."

Luckily, the one school he is hearing from is a lifelong favorite. Fisher has been to plenty of UCLA games over the past year, and has been up to campus before.

"I've had tickets to a bunch of UCLA games," Fisher said. "You know, trying to get in good with the football atmosphere up there. Growing up for me, it was UCLA all the time. The blue and gold, man, the blue and gold."

Aside from the Bruins, Fisher has gotten inquiries from Iowa and Arizona, but nothing further from any other schools. Given the state of his recruitment, Fisher figures that he'll probably wait to make his decision until deep into his senior year.

"Honestly, I'm probably going to take my time," Fisher said. "If UCLA offered, I'm not sure, but I think I'd have to still go through the process."
