Mama Lands Local Offers

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama played well at the Nike Camp this weekend and has a couple of big time local offers to show for it...

Here's how the last few days have gone for big Damien Mama. The lineman dominated at the SoCal NIKE Camp earning OL MVP honors and getting an invite to The Opening on the Nike Camp in Oregon.

Monday night, Mama landed an offer from UCLA and followed up by landing an offer from USC Tuesday morning. The athlete said on Sunday the two local schools were the last two scholarships he was really hoping to get and they came one after the other.

"I'm very excited about both of these offers," Mama said. "I had been getting a lot of offers from schools all over the country and the two closest to home had yet to offer. It feels really good to have the local schools as a serious option for me.

"With UCLA, I talked to Coach Klemm, the OL coach for a while Monday night and that went really well. It's a great school and I have a lot of interest there. He told me they're only taking a couple of lineman this year and I'm someone they really want so that was good. I haven't been hearing much from UCLA this whole time so the offer meant a lot."

Mama had been hearing a lot from USC and attended the Trojans Junior Day last month.

"I've always liked USC a lot growing up, that's who I rooted for," Mama said. "I actually thought they might offer at Junior Day but they said they were still evaluating me but it could happen soon. I stayed patient and sure enough, it happened. I talked to Coach Kiffen this morning and he told me they were offering so that was very exciting for sure.

"I'm still open to everyone though and not close to shutting things down. In fact, I'm not even ready to narrow my list down. I still plan to take some unofficial visits in the summer and then I want to take my official visits in the fall. I'm not leaning anywhere right now, everyone still has a chance and once I'm done with the visits, I'll sit back and pick the best place for me."
