Dorton Not in a Rush

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive end Malik Dorton (6-3, 235), had thought about making an early decision.

But as more offers come in, Dorton looks like he'll take a little more time.

"When I started getting more offers, I started thinking about stretching it a little longer, maybe to the spring or summer, and see what other schools come along," said Dorton.

Ole Miss, Washington and Colorado are some of the more recent offers for the four-star defensive end

"Cal could be close as well," said Dorton. "We'll see what else happens this spring."

Dorton visited both USC and UCLA for their Junior Days and said both were great experiences.

"UCLA was amazing. I got to see a lot about the campus, the school and the football program," said Dorton. "USC was nice too. They focused more on the academics early and then at the end, it was all about football."

Dorton has long maintained UCLA as a leader and said they still stand out the most.

"UCLA contacts me almost every day and they've always been the favorite and I've always like the program up over there," said Dorton.

But Dorton said Arizona State and Washington State specifically are recruiting him hard as well.

"Washington State and Arizona State are contacting me almost every other day too," said Dorton. "I would have to say that Arizona State is recruiting me the hardest, I talk with the coaches pretty often."

Which position Dorton will play in college still remains to be seen.

"Some schools are saying linebacker and mostly as a pass rusher, so I'm good with outside linebacker," said Dorton, who's a defensive end by trade.

Dorton had a good showing at the Los Angeles NFTC on Sunday and plans to do a few more camps in the spring and summer.

"I want to keep working hard to keep this weight and be a pretty solid 235 this season," said Dorton.
