Lockett Plans for Busy Summer

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive back Jonathan Lockett had a solid showing at the recent IMG 7 on 7 Regional qualifier and showed why he's regarded as one of the top corners in region...

Jonathan Lockett has seen his stock soar over the past few months reeling in scholarship offers from programs like Washington, Arizona, Oregon State, Boise State, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona State and Notre Dame. The athlete has a ton of ability and just keeps getting better.

There has been some questions about Lockett's frame and top end speed. He looks about 5-11.5 and probably weighs about 175 pounds so he's not a small corner. He does need to fill out but has plenty of time to do so. His speed and more importantly his quickness is very good and his one on one battle with elite receiver Rahshead Johnson was one of the highlights of the tournament.

As for his visit plans, Lockett said he wants to take some summer trips but hasn't lined anything up yet.

"I was just talking with my parents about that," Lockett said. "We want to get out and see some schools but haven't planned anything yet. My dad wants to go check out Notre Dame so hopefully we can do that. That was a huge offer for me, very surprising but very exciting as well.

"USC has come on lately and is writing me hand written letters every day. They want me to come up and camp with them so I plan to do that. I'm also going to camp with UCLA. I talk to Coach Martin and he said he wants me to meet Coach Mora and build that relationship so I'll be doing that as well."

Lockett said the plan is to narrow his list by the end of the summer.

"Depending on who else offers, I want to get down to five or six schools," Lockett said. "I only plan to take one or two official visits because I'm not going to take any until after our season. I won't have time to take more than that if we go deep in the playoffs.

"I know Oregon will for sure get a visit. They're recruiting me the hardest right now and message me all the time. I really like them a lot and appreciate how much interest they're showing. After that, I'm not sure what I'll do, like I said, I'll wait until the end of the summer, see how many offers I have and go from there."
