One of the top quarterbacks in the West in the 2014 class, Wilkins has spoken with several schools who have said they're making it a point to get up to the Bay Area this spring to watch him throw.
"Arizona State was fun," said Wilkins. "I hadn't been down there to Arizona or Arizona State, so it was good to check out their school. I wanted to get down to Arizona but wasn't able to make it but I plan to."
Wilkins said the time in Tempe was good.
"They're building a lot of new buildings, new freshman dorms and a new business building," said Wilkins. "It's really cool, there a lot of students, a lot of diversity and a lot of kids that go there. It's beautiful out there. There excited to keep up recruiting me in the process. I met with both Coach (Todd) Graham and Coach (Mike) Norvell. They haven't signed a quarterback in the last two classes, so they're trying to find that guy. Coach Norvell said he's going to come up and watch me throw and he said that guy they offer is going to be someone special."
"I'm trying to get up to Washington, they've been recruiting me for a while. Coach Tosh (Lupoi), Coach Tui (Marques Tuiasosopo) and Coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian), I've got the whole crew after me. I can go to Cal anytime and I went to their spring practice and I would have went to their spring game if I wasn't in Arizona. And UCLA, I'll be going to their quarterback camp in June and Coach (Taylor) Mazzone is coming to see me throw this spring. Coach (Clay) Helton at USC said they'll come and see me in the spring. Really, almost all of the Pac-12 schools, except for Stanford, will come down to see me throw. And I talk to Tennessee too," said Wilkins.
And Wilkins is fine with having to use the spring to essentially audition for coaches.
"A few schools have said they want to evaluate me in person and they said the key to the success is seeing me in person," said Wilkins. "At the same time, I liked how Arizona and Utah State already saw what they needed to."
This coming weekend, Wilkins will be in Dallas at the first Elite 11 Regional Tryout.
"I actually decided for spring break to go back home to Texas and I'm going to stay in Dallas and will be doing the Elite 11 and the NFTC there," said Wilkins. "There are definitely some good athletes in Texas and I'm excited to compete against those guys."
Wilkins will then camp at both in May, when the Elite 11 returns to the Bay Area, in Santa Clara and the NFTC is back in Oakland.
Academically, Wilkins has a 3.0 and is taking the SAT in the spring.
