2015 Close Look: Desean Holmes

The B2G Elite 7on7 brought together some of the best players from all over the West Coast last weekend. There were several talented underclassmen on display and one player who wowed onlookers all weekend was Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany receiver Desean Holmes...

Desean Holmes, 5-9, 155 WR Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany (2015)

Evaluation: When you play for Alemany, you're know you're going to be playing in a ton of 7 on 7 events. Although just a sophomore, Holmes is already a veteran to 7 on 7 football but the B2G tournament was his coming out party to a lot of people who hadn't seen him on the circuit this spring and he was electric.

No one averaged more yards per catch than Holmes as it seemed like every time you looked up, he was running past a corner and a safety and scoring on a long touchdown. He's simply one of the quickest players in the region and can get deep on anyone.

Holmes showed he's also very good after the catch and does a nice job making a defender miss in the open field. He has good hands and excellent ball awareness, making several tough catches over his shoulder. He adjusts very well to the ball and has incredible hand-eye coordination. He's not the biggest receiver and will struggle at times getting off the jam but with two years of high school ball to go, he's the closest thing we've seen to Tavon Austin in the 2015 class.

Recruitment: Holmes has early offers from Houston, UCLA and Utah and said he feels USC could be very close as well. Holmes isn't listing favorites right now but some at Alemany feel this one will be a classic battle between the two L.A schools in the end.
