Johnathan Franklin's wait is over--on Saturday, Franklin was drafted in the 4th round by the Green Bay Packers, putting him in the same Packers' draft class as fellow Bruin Datone Jones and fellow running back Eddie Lacy.
Franklin is UCLA's all-time leading rusher with 4,403 yards, having broken the record during the 2012 season against Arizona. After having a fumbling issue through his first three seasons at UCLA, Franklin seemingly solved the issue in the 2012 year, only coughing the ball up once.
With Franklin, the Packers are getting a back with good speed, excellent balance, and a good burst. In a backfield with Lacy, Franklin will likely start out as a third down, situational back.
Franklin slid a bit further than expected, with a handful of running backs selected ahead of him after reports indicated that he might be among the first two or three running backs picked in the draft.
Still, compared to where his draft stock was after his junior season, the decision to come back for his senior season was a good one. He joins a good NFL team that should compete for the playoffs this year, which should give him time to develop further as a player.
