Bruins to Check Out Taumoeanga

The Portland (Ore.) Roosevelt defensive tackle, Sione Taumoe'anga, will get a visit from UCLA...

Portland (Ore.) Roosevelt defensive tackle Sione Taumoe'anga has offers from Portland State, Idaho, Harvard and Yale.

Now Taumoeanga is hoping some Pac-12 schools get involved.

"I think Oregon State and UCLA are on the edge of offering me," said Taumoeanga. "They like me as a defensive tackle or defensive end, they just want to see me."

Taumoeanga said that the Beavers and Bruins, as well as the hometown Vikings and Idaho, stand atop the list.

"I really have heard from all the schools I'm considering," said Taumoeanga. "I'm pretty happy with the schools recruiting me."

Cal, Oregon, Washington State and BYU are all expected to come by Roosevelt this spring as well, and Taumoeanga is certainly open to them.

"I'm open to any school that is considering me and wants to offer me," said Taumoeanga. "Oregon State and UCLA are just kind of where my heart is. But I'm still keeping it open and I'm not going to commit anywhere right away."

Oregon State defensive line coach Joe Seumalo and UCLA defensive coordinator Lou Spanos are also expected to be at Roosevelt this spring, and Taumoeanga talks with them both.

"They both said they want to see me in workouts," said Taumoeanga. "I took an unofficial visit to Oregon State and met with Coach Seumalo and he really likes me."

Taumoeanga is LDS and plans to serve his mission right after high school, then come back as a true freshman in 2016.

This summer, he'll camp at BYU, Oregon, Oregon State and the NFTC in Oregon.
