Smith's Focus Back on Football

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) athlete JuJu Smith has been pretty quiet on the football front this spring while focusing on track. Smith has decided to take a break from track and took in the UCLA Spring Game last Saturday...

Juju Smith is currently rated the No. 1 safety and the No. 8 overall player in the nation in the Scout 300. He would likely be rated among the top 10-20 prospects nationally at receiver as well and is a great all around talent.

With offers from schools all over the nation, Smith has focused on track this spring and hasn't been to any of the big summer camps or 7 on 7 tournaments.

"I'm actually done with track now, I decided to shut it down," Smith said. "I just wanted to take some time off and get healthy for spring football. I'm feeling good and I'll be ready to go. I haven't done much football this spring but I went to UCLA's Spring Game last Saturday.

"To be honest, I'm not really in to spring games that much, I get antsy cause I would rather be playing than watching. I got there late so I didn't get to talk to the coaches before the game or go in to the locker room but I talked a little with Coach Martin afterwards. I have a good relationship with Coach Meat and Coach Broussard, those are my two lead recruiters and they're recruiting me harder than anyone."

Smith has maintained a solid top five of USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame and UCLA and plans to take all five of his official visits before making his decision anywhere.

Greg Biggins has been covering recruiting for over 15 years, covering the West since the mid-1990's and currently serves as a national analyst for Scout.com/FOXSportsNext.
