On the recruiting front, there has been a lot of talk that Dorton was close to making a decision. Those plans have definitely been put on hold after his most recent offer.
"USC offered me today," Dorton said. "The past couple of weeks, the coaches at USC have been showing me a lot more interest and talking to me a lot more. They have been telling my coaches how much they liked me and then today, they told one of my coaches to have me call them.
"I talked to a few of the assistant coaches and then talked with Coach Kiffin and he told me he was offering me a scholarship. I was real excited, this is a big time offer. Growing up, USC was the school I rooted for. I watched all the games when Reggie Bush was playing and I lived 5 minutes from the school so that's why this was so big for me."
Dorton said he wasn't ready to name USC as a leader or any school for that matter.
"I'm open to everyone," Dorton said. "I still like UCLA a lot, I grew up watching them a lot and they were one of the first schools to offer me. I was at the Spring Game and they're looking really good right now. Washington is creeping up there and I really like Arizona State too.
"Right now, I just want to take a step back and try and learn as much as I can about each of the schools. I'm trying to figure out where I'll fit in the best scheme wise and what's make the most sense for me. I want to slow things down and take some visits and I don't plan to commit early anywhere now. Once I commit, that will be it for me so I don't want to rush in to anything."
"I want to try and visit some schools in the summer if I can. Me and some of my teammates want to get out to Washington and Ole Miss and I want to see ASU too. There's still a chance I could commit by the end of the summer if I feel really good about it but I'm not putting any timelines on my decision right now."
