Smith had a very impressive showing at the SoCal NIKE Camp as well and was rated among the top three ‘backers at the event by the NIKE coaches.
"Smith is a hard working player, a front of the line guy who leads by example," Nike Camp lead LB Coach Chris Gizzi said after the event. "He's a high motor player who loves to be coached and moves better than you'd expect to see from a player his size. As he continues to improve his overall speed and athleticism, Smith should develop in to a national prospect as well."
On the recruiting front, San Diego State was the first offer for Smith coming two weeks ago and he landed No. 2 earlier in the week.
"UCLA just offered me Wednesday," Smith said. "They came to my school and then I called up Coach (Jeff) Ulbrich, the linebacker coach, later in the day and he offered me. Coach Ulbrich is a great guy and I feel really comfortable communicating with him.
"I feel like he wants the best for me and he alone puts UCLA over the top for me. I'm going to try and take a visit there in the summer if I can and I'm also going to try and camp with USC and Oregon in the summer. Right now, I'm not planning to make an early decision, I want to go through the process and have fun with it, I know it's a once in a lifetime experience for me."
While the Bruins may be on top right now, Smith has interest in several other programs as well.
"I really like the SEC a lot," Smith said. "I want to try and camp with LSU next summer and I think it would be cool to go play football back in the South where football is so big. It would be a dream to play in the SEC but right now, I'm open to everyone and just want to play the process out and really enjoy this."
