Dawson Hearing From UCLA

Tavrion Dawson, an intriguing 2014 power forward from Gardena (Calif.) Serra, has been receiving interest from the Bruin staff...

Tavrion Dawson, 6-7 JR PF Gardena (Calif.) Serra, is a versatile prospect with the ability to play both inside and on the perimeter. A lefty with a solid stroke to 17-19 feet, Dawson has a very good feel and approach to the game.

I spoke with Dawson recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in touch with him.

"Montana State has offered," said Dawson "And I'm hearing from UCLA, USC, Washington, Arizona State, Pepperdine, Santa Clara and Nevada."

Dawson said he already has a relationship with one of the Bruin coaches.

"Coach Broussard was recruiting me when he was at New Mexico," said Dawson. "I like him; we have a good relationship. We're more like friends. When we talk it's not just about basketball." I asked Dawson if any school stands out for him at this time.

"Arizona State – I'm feeling them right now," said Dawson. "I'm going to visit there and we'll see how the visit goes."

Dawson said he plans on visiting both USC and Arizona State next month.

I asked Dawson if he has a feel for which schools are recruiting him the hardest.

"Arizona State, Montana State, Pepperdine, USC and UCLA," said Dawson.

I asked Dawson what he is looking for in a school.

"A coach with job security, a great education and an up-tempo offense," said Dawson. "The location doesn't really matter."

Dawson said he has a time frame in mind for picking a school.

"I'll probably decide sometime after the summer," said Dawson.
