UCLA On Pickett's Short List

El Cerrito (Calif.) defensive back Adarius Pickett had a solid showing at the recent NIKE Camp in Oakland culminating in an invite to The Opening following the event...

Adarius Pickett is an intriguing defensive back with the versatility to play anywhere in the secondary. He's a true cover corner but has a big, strong frame and could even grow into a safety down the road.

"He's a football player," lead DB coach Michael Fletcher said. "He has an imposing frame and plays physical. He can run though and has good short area quickness but I think down the road, his best position could be free safety. He's a great leader and was always the first guy to jump to the front of line and is very coachable."

On the recruiting front, Pickett said he has no plans to make an early decision and will go through the recruiting process.

"I'm going to play it out," Pickett said. "I'm going to play things out and I don't want to make an early decision. I have a really busy summer ahead of me and I'm not even done with baseball right now. I want to take some visits this summer but I might only have time to visit UCLA and I'm not even sure about that right now.

"I do plan to take my official visits but I haven't decided where yet. The schools recruiting me the hardest are UCLA, Arizona State, USC, Purdue, Stanford, Nebraska and Northwestern. New schools are coming in as well so I'm going to wait it out and plan everything once I'm comfortable with what schools I like most."
