UCLA to Re-Set QB Recruiting

With Kyle Allen going elsewhere, will will UCLA now target at quarterback for 2014?

UCLA was considered the leader for Kyle Allen, the #1 quarterback in the nation. At the time of the UCLA spring game, he was giving a very strong indication he was coming to UCLA.

Things can definitely change in the recruiting world, with Allen announcing for Texas A&M Monday.

Where does this leave UCLA quarterback recruiting for 2014?

Scrambling a bit.

The Bruins will pivot and probably target three prospects:

Brad Kaaya, the 6-4, 210-pound prospect from West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade. Kaaya is verbally committed to Miami, but some close to the situation believe UCLA would be able to make Kaaya reconsider. Kaaya is in Miami at this exact moment throwing at Miami's camp, so it could very well be tough to get him to turn. Here's Kaaya's initial reaction when asked if he'd be interested in UCLA.

Manny Wilkins, 6-3, 185-pound prospect from Novato (Calif.) San Marin. Wilkins recently verbally committed to Arizona State, and UCLA will try to turn his head, even though it could be difficult. UCLA assistant Taylor Mazzone visited Wilkins at his school right before he verbally committed to ASU.

Brandon Dawkins, 6-4, 215-pound prospect from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian. UCLA has shown Dawkins some interest up until this point, but it's easy to anticipate that the interest will probably intensify now. Dawkins wanted to commit to Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago, but the Irish wouldn't take his commitment because they were waiting on Allen. Will they take it now? It will be interesting to see if increased UCLA interest -- and an offer -- could sway things.

Updated Monday afternoon: Dawkins just indicated to us that he'll camp at UCLA's camp next week. He's camping at Ohio State, USC and then UCLA.
