Things Pick Up for Penny

Things are starting to pick up for Norwalk (Calif.) running back Rashaad Penny, easily among the top backs in the entire west region...

Rashaad Penny rushed for almost 1,900 yards and scored 30 touchdowns to earn all-CIF and all-state underclass honors from CalHiSports. At 6-0, 190 pounds, he has good size, is a physical runner and shows the speed and toughness to run inside or outside at the next level.

On the recruiting front, things were slow for Penny early on but he's now up to six scholarship offers after landing two more in the last week.

"Fresno State and Eastern Washington are the most recent schools to offer me," Penny said. "I also have San Jose State, UNLV, San Diego State and Nevada. I'm also hearing from UCLA, BYU, Colorado and Colorado State and they seem close to offering as well.

"The two visits I know I'll do in the summer are UCLA and San Diego State. I want to camp with them and get to know the coaching staffs and just see what it's like on the campus there. Hopefully UCLA will offer, that would be a big one for me."

Penny took the SAT over the weekend and has said academics will play a role in his decision.

"I definitely want something to fall back on," Penny said. "I want to major in something sports related like broadcasting. From a football standpoint, I want a school where I'll be comfortable with the coaches and the campus. I'm also looking for a strong program where I'll have a chance to come in and compete for playing time right away."
