Football Recruiting Tidbits

We have some recruiting info on five-star Adoree Jackson, elite linebacker Dwight Williams, quarterbacks and more...

Some recruiting tidbits:

-- UCLA is doing well with Adoree Jackson, the five-star prospect from Gardena Serra. In fact, we're hearing UCLA could have the inside track with him at this time.

-- Dwight Williams, the #7-ranked outside linebacker in the country and Jackson's teammate at Serra, is also liking UCLA quite a bit.

-- It wouldn't be surprise to see UCLA look into their Serra teammate, quarterback Jalen Greene, the 6-1 prospect committed to Boise State. Greene is a lefty with a solid arm and good athleticism and, being a leader of the Serra program, he wouldn't hurt with Jackson or Williams, or the younger very talented prospects at Serra.

-- Sources are indicating that UCLA is now showing more interest in Cade Apsay, the 6-2, 180-pound quarterback from Canyon Country (Calif.) Canyon. The plan is for him to participate in the quarterback camp of UCLA Offensive Coordinator Noel Mazzone this weekend on UCLA's campus.

-- As we reported yesterday, Brandon Dawkins, the 6-4, 205-pound quarterback prospect from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, will participate in the UCLA skills camp next Tueday. He's camping at Ohio State on Saturday and then USC on Sunday.

-- We reported how defensive tackle prospect Ainuu Taua from Lompoc might not be a defensive tackle prospect any longer. He's about 5-11 and had reportedly lost some weight. Greg Biggins checked in with the Lompoc coaches, and reported this:

I had heard some rumors about his weight loss prior to Tracy's article so wanted to hit up his coach and see what was up. He was 5-11.5, 293 at the SoCal NIKE Camp back in March. His coach said he's down to 270 but in great shape and plans to be back up to 285 by The Opening at the end of this month. Coach didn't mention anything about him not wanting to play DT any more and said that's still where he envisions him in college. He also said Ainuu was salivating at the opportunity to play next to Eddie Vanderdoes if he ended up at UCLA.

-- UCLA is continuing to recruit defensive tackle Tashon Smallwood, who is verbally committed to USC. The Bruins have a chance, but they're definitely on the outside looking in.

-- Smallwood's teammate, Sharif Williams, the 6-3, 320-pound prospect, could be an option at nose tackle. The problem is that he's been injured a bit this spring and college coaches haven't been able to see him much. He has said he plans to come to UCLA's camp this month, and that would really give his UCLA recruitment a boost.

-- UCLA is doing well with Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton defensive end Qualen Cunningham. There was some confusion over whether he had a UCLA offer, but we've confirmed he does. The word is that his two leaders are UCLA and Texas A&M.

-- After an OL MVP performance at the NorCal Nike Camp, Kammy Delp, the 6-4, 305-pound prospect from Pomona (Calif.) Diamond Ranch, has seen his recruiting get turned up a notch. The plan is for Delp to come to UCLA's camp, and we could see him doing well there and UCLA potentially getting seriously involved.

-- UCLA has shown interest in Uriah Leiataua, the 6-4, 265-pound defensive line prospect from Compton Dominguez. Leiataua, a brother of former Bruins Sonny and Shannon Tevaga, is supposed to also camp at UCLA this month, and that would be a big step toward getting a Bruin offer.

-- While there is a long-running debate on the BRO Premium Football Message Board as to the worth of silent commitments, and a worthy one, we know that UCLA has around six silent commitments at this time.
