Plattenburg Checks Out UCLA

Corona (Calif.) Centennial defensive back John Plattenburg took an unofficial visit to UCLA on Monday and said the Bruins are in a good spot right now.

John Plattenburg has elevated his stock as much as any player in the region this spring. He has looked great at several 7 on 7 tournaments playing for the Frat Boys and then dominated the NorCal NIKE Camp in Oakland winning DB MVP honors over a loaded group of defensive backs.

On the recruiting front, Plattenburg is well past the double digit offer mark and on Monday, he took a visit to one of his most recent offers.

"I visited UCLA and had a great time," Plattenburg said. "It was awesome there, I got to talk to the entire coaching staff, tour the campus and meet the academic advisors. I have a good relationship with the DB coach, Coach Martin and I really liked talking with Coach Mora as well.

"Coach Mora is a cool guy and a former NFL DB coach and I like him a lot. I loved the atmosphere there and my mom really enjoyed it as well. It just seemed like everyone was really happy to be there and I had a really good time."

Plattenburg said this was his first time ever visiting the UCLA campus. He visited California a few weeks back and there's a good chance the athlete will make an early commitment, before summer is over.

"I'm not going to force it but I'm going to try my best to make a decision before my senior season gets here," Plattenburg said. "I know I said earlier that if I made it to The Opening, I would do it then and that's still a possibility. Like I said, I'm not really sure right now exactly when I'll do it but if I can do it early so I can focus on our season without any distractions, that would be great."
