Riggins Nabs First Offer

Westlake (Calif.) Oaks Christian running back D.J. Riggins has earned his first offer from Hawaii, and has his eye on more...

D.J. Riggins dominated the 7 on 7 circuit this past spring and was one of the top backs we saw at the SoCal NIKE Camp as well. He had another strong showing competing at the Get It Done Sports Camp instructed by Oregon State this past weekend and received some big news on Monday.

"I got my first offer from Hawaii," Riggins said. "Coach Jones, the DB coach at Hawaii has been recruiting me. Coach Chow called my coach here at Oaks, Coach Woodruff, to ask about me. On Monday, my dad and Coach Woodruff pulled me out of class and pretended to be mad, like I had done something wrong.

"Then they kind of smiled and said Coach Chow at Hawaii had just offered me a scholarship. To say this is a relief or a big weight off my shoulders is an understatement. It feels so good to get this first one. I really believe I can play with anyone and proved that over the spring and I'm just really excited about this offer and hopefully a few more come in now."

Riggins attended UCLA's camp last week and will hit up a few more in the coming weeks as well.

"The UCLA camp was great, I've been hearing a lot from them," Riggins said. "I thought I did really well there and had a good camp. Oregon State was great as well. The coaches seemed really excited about me and I got to talk with the Coach Banker and the RB coach, Chris Brasfield so that was great.

"I'm also hearing a lot from Utah, Washington and Boise State. I'm going to camp with Colorado when they do their camp out here and will also camp with San Jose State and Fresno State. I'll take my visits in the fall and will for sure take one to Hawaii. My dad and I have already decided that will be during our bye week which I think is in week 6 of our season this year."
