Mama Recaps UCLA Unofficial

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama met with Adrian Klemm on UCLA's campus Wednesday, and is now considering the Bruins much more heavily...

Damien Mama is a mammoth guard prospect who could even play some right tackle in college. He's the top lineman in the state and could end up the top overall offensive lineman in the West region by the end of the summer.

Mama, who grew up a USC fan, didn't appear to have much interest in UCLA with the feeling he was the Trojans to lose. That could still be the case but the Bruins made a nice impression on him earlier today.

"I had a change of heart," Mama said. "I haven't had much communication with UCLA but coach Klemm invited me to come up for a visit so I decided to go check it out. I've been to UCLA before but it has been a while. I went last year to their camp before I even had any offers. I didn't make it to any spring practices so the coaches weren't sure how interested I was.

"It was a cool visit for me. It wasn't much of a tour as it was just me and Coach Klemm sitting and talking for about two hours. He talked about their depth chart and where I could fit in. He told me a little about himself and we just connected pretty well. He did a great job with a young line last year and I know he has an NFL background.

"My relationship with my position coach is going to be a big deal for me and I can tell it would be fun to play for Coach Klemm. He knows what he's doing and he knows what it takes to get to the NFL and that's my ultimate goal. He invited me to come back up this Friday for their camp and just hang out and watch and that's what I'm going to do."

Mama said he'll also hit up the USC Rising Stars Camp next week and then head to Oregon for The Opening.

"I don't know if I'll have time for any more visits in the summer," Mama said. "I'm going to take all my official visits in the fall and I know one for sure will be to Alabama for the LSU game. I also want to check out Ohio State but again, I don't have a date right now.

"I'm real close with Viane Talamaivao and it would be fun to play with him. He called me right after he committed to Bama and we're going on that visit together. Right now, I'm open to everyone though and I don't have any favorites. Maybe at the end of the summer I'll cut my list down but right now, I'm still enjoying talking to all the colleges and seeing what they all have to offer."
