Mama to Trim List in Summer

The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive tackle, Damien Mama, will trim his list after The Opening...

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive tackle Damien Mama (6-5, 360), continues to make a case for being the West's top offensive lineman.

Mama was the L.A. NFTC OL MVP and on Saturday at the PTP Kumite Camp in Corona, was again, his dominant self.

The four-star Mama has almost 30 offers and said he'll probably trim his list after The Opening.

"I think I have 28 offers altogether," said Mama. "I'm still trying to work on my list. There are definitely a lot of schools interested."

The four-star visited UCLA earlier this week and was again in Westwood on Friday night for the UCLA Elite Camp.

"It was great sitting with Coach (Adrian) Klemm for a couple of hours. That was cool. I went back for the camp and I talked to Coach (Jim) Mora, Coach (Steve) Broussard and a couple of other coaches, but I mostly kicked with Coach Klemm," said Mama.

He'll visit USC this upcoming week for USC's Rising Stars Camp, though like the UCLA Elite Camp, he won't work out, staying fresh instead for The Opening.

"I'm going to head up to USC this week for Rising Stars and just hang out," said Mama. "Then I'm going to the AIGA Camp (next weekend) to help coach the younger kids. My only camp left is The Opening."

Mama said he doesn't anticipate an announcement coming until January, at the soonest.

"I want to take all five visits," said Mama. "I may announce at the UnderArmour All-America Game. If I need to wait longer, I'll do it on Signing Day if my decision isn't made up. I don't want to make the wrong decision, so I would wait it out if I need to. I probably won't visit USC or UCLA though, I'll just take unofficial visits there."

Mama said he'll visit Alabama officially when the Tide host LSU.

"Me, Viane (Talamaivao) and Tyler (Luatua) are all going to visit officially when Alabama plays LSU," said Mama. "That should be a lot of fun."

Mama said he enjoyed the camaraderie that came with the PTP Kumite.

"It's just great having an AIGA like atmosphere," said Mama. "It was fun, being able to hug it out after someone loses. It's a family and being able to be with family is always good."
