Lockett To Announce at The Opening

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater defensive back Jonathan Lockett commented a week ago that he was trying to decide if he should make an early decision or wait until after the season. The talented corner has decided he's ready to pull the trigger and will announce at The Opening next week...

It's a three team race for Jonathan Lockett as he'll make his college choice on the NIKE campus in Oregon next week.

"I'm down to Oregon, UCLA and Washington," Lockett said. "I've decided I'm ready to do this and I really want to make my choice before school gets here. I have a good idea right now what I want to do, but I'm going to visit Washington and Oregon this week and then I'll know for sure where the best fit is.

"I wanted to try and visit Notre Dame but I just couldn't make it out there. I like these three schools a lot though and they're close to home and I'm comfortable with the coaching staffs at each place. I feel real good about this."

Lockett has been to UCLA multiple times and is looking forward to getting out to the two NW programs.

"UCLA is local and I like Coach Martin," Lockett said. "Oregon has been recruiting me harder than anyone and I like Coach Neal a lot. Coach Heyward at UW is a great guy and a great coach and I'm looking forward to visiting the school and seeing it up close.

"Like I said, I have a good idea right now what I want to do but I won't be 100% until I take these visits and see the schools. It should be a fun week for me. I can't wait for The Opening to get here. I feel like I have a lot to prove out there and I'm ready to go and show what I can do against the best receivers in the country."
