The Opening: John Plattenburg Update

The Corona (Calif.) Centennial cornerback, John Plattenburg, talks about The Opening and his recruitment...

Corona (Calif.) Centennial cornerback John Plattenburg was thinking about announcing his decision this week at The Opening, but the four-star has decided to wait things out for a while.

Instead of jumping into a decision, Plattenburg said he'll instead trim his list to a top five in the next couple weeks.

"Even if I commit before the season, I plan to take every single trip, and when the season comes, other opportunities are going to come up," said Plattenburg. "I went deep in research for my top ten, and I'm going to go even deeper when I put in into a top five."

There are still a handful of schools in the mix for those five spots.

"Of course Washington, I just came from there and it was a good visit, UCLA, Baylor, Oregon a little bit, depending on their numbers, and then I'm thinking a trip to Vanderbilt and Cal, I'm talking to Coach Dykes today," said Plattenburg.

Plattenburg said it's likely he'll still announce his decision before the season.

"It will be a few weeks from now when I narrow it down, and I'll be committed before the season," said Plattenburg.

Plattenburg said that Washington and UCLA are still recruiting him as hard as anyone, with Cal also recruiting him heavily and Baylor, where he visited last month, is also in the mix.

"I'm just going to do my homework a little more, and look at all of the things of each school and come up with my top five," said Plattenburg.
