The Opening: Christian Kirk

The 2015 receiver from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro, Christian Kirk, more than held his own in Beaverton and he talked about The Opening and his recruitment...

Christian Kirk was one of just four juniors at The Opening last week but he never looked overwhelmed and still managed to stand out, even in a loaded field.

"It was a great experience for me," Kirk said. "I had a great time and was blown away by the gear we got, the campus and all the scenery. Everyone said it was hot but it was 118 back home in Arizona so I loved it and felt very comfortable there.

"I thought I matched up well out there. I felt good, it felt normal for me to be out there competing. I was confident and I felt like I fit in just fine. If you can play, you can play and overall, I loved the event and was excited to get the invite."

On the recruiting front, Kirk is still a ways away from making any serious decisions, being that he has two years left before he can even sign anywhere. He did say there are a handful of schools that are recruiting him harder than anyone else.

"The ones that seem to be on me the hardest right now are Texas A&M, Tennessee, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Arizona State and California," Kirk said. "Kyle (Allen- A&M commit) and Luke (Rubenzer- Cal commit) have both been in my ear already about their schools.

"I would like to do some unofficial's this summer but I just don't think I'll have the time. I have no plans to make an early decision though, I want to take my official visits and go from there. I talked to some players out here who committed early and they said they kind of regretted not taking their visits first so I don't want to rush the process."

Kirk said he's still open to all schools and isn't leaning anywhere at the moment.

"Growing up, I rooted for Texas, Ohio State and then Oregon in the last few years," Kirk said. "When I started to go through the recruiting process though, I changed my mindset and I'm not going to let who I used to like affect my decision.

"I'm looking at this more like a business decision and will pick the school that is the best fit for me. Like I said, right now, I'm not close to narrowing my list or anything, I have a long way to go and I just want to enjoy the process."
