The Opening: Pickett Update, Video

El Cerrito (Calif.) defensive back Adarius Pickett had a strong overall week at The Opening and was easily among the top cover corners in the event...

At 5-11, 186 pounds, Adarius Pickett was one of the biggest and most physical corners at The Opening. He tested well in the SPARQ drills running a very solid 4.62-40, 4.18 shuttle and jumped 31 inches in the vertical.

Pickett narrowly missed making the all-tournament team and was very active. He showed good cover skills and better athleticism than we've seen before. He always plays hard and competes at a very high level. The athlete made a solid case to being the No. 2 corner in the west behind only Adoree Jackson.

On the recruiting front, Pickett still has a long list of schools he's considering but did say he know where a few of his official visits will.

"I'm at 13 schools right now," Pickett said. "Before the season, I want to cut it down to six and then take my official visits. I don't have any dates set up right now but I would like to take at least three visits before I make my decision.

"I'll visit for visit UCLA and USC, those are for sure. I might visit Stanford and I'll probably visit Arizona State as well. I won't visit California officially because it's so close to home and I've been there a number of times but I have high interest in them as well."

Pickett's good friend and teammate D.J. Calhoun committed to USC at The Opening but Pickett said that won't affect what he does.

"I've known D.J. and Joe (Mixon) forever," Pickett said. "Of course those guys are going to try and recruit me to their school because were great friends but I know I have to make my own decision. I have to do what is best for me and make this a business decision so that's how I'm looking at it."
