Schools from coast to coast have been in pursuit of Scout 100 outside linebacker Rashaan Evans. The 6-foot-3, 217 pound athlete out of Auburn, Ala. has been timed in the 40 yard dash in 4.51 seconds, he is explosive off the edge, and he showed he could drop into coverage at The Opening. Back on June 19, Evans named Georgia as his leader followed by UCLA, Tennessee, Florida State, and Auburn in that order.
Two of those schools are now out of the race completely, three schools are still in it, and a new one has been added.
"I am down to four schools and these are the only schools I am looking at from here on out," Evans told Scout. "It is in no order this time, but my final four are Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, and UCLA. That is it. I am focusing on those four schools from now on."
Evans just visited Alabama on Tuesday and he had a "great" visit to Tuscaloosa. He spent most of the day there.
He has visited Auburn numerous times. He lives right down the road from the university, so he is very familiar with the overall program, but is still getting to know the new staff.
Georgia has had the four-star on their campus twice and he likes the way they use their outside linebackers in their 3-4 defense.
Those three schools have one thing in common and that is a big reason why the Tide, Tigers, and Dawgs are in the thick of this heated battle.
"They are SEC schools. They all play great football in a great conference and that is a big reason why I like each one. All are a little different, but being in the SEC is big."
The one school in his final group not in the Southeastern Conference is UCLA. It is the relationship he has developed with a couple of the coaches on the Bruins staff that has them in the same group with the SEC trio.
"Getting to know Coach [Jeff] Ulbrich and [Jim] Mora has been great. They have recruited me hard, I have a great relationship with those guys, and UCLA is another great school."
Now, Evans will take it day by day and see when he gets that feeling.
He has an idea of when he may commit, but he is going to go off how he feels.
"I could commit during the season and take a few official visits, but I will commit when I feel I am ready," he said.
"If I am ready before the season, then I will commit then. I do not have a real timeline, but I am thinking it will happen during the season sometime right now. I just have to know and when I do, I will commit to that school."
Evans mentioned the possibility of taking visits to Auburn and Georgia to watch practice in the coming weeks.
He is currently the No. 3 outside linebacker and the No. 54 overall prospect in the country.
