2015 Intro: New Williams

2015 Santa Monica (Calif.) combo guard New Williams had a big July, earning seven scholarship offers, but says that he had a childhood favorite...

It was a successful July evaluation period for 6-foot-2, 160-pound Santa Monica (Calif.) 2015 combo guard New Williams, who entered the month with no offers and left with seven.

Arizona State, Northern Arizona, Rhode Island, San Diego State, Pepperdine, San Francisco and LMU all offered Williams, while a number of other schools are tracking him.

Williams describes himself as a combo guard who impacts the game in a number of ways.

"I can play the one and the two because of my athletic abilities," Williams said. "I can shoot the ball, I like to drive and get to the rim, I'm very intense on defense, I try to have good leadership qualities and keep my teammates involved and make everyone better on the floor.

"I'm working on getting my right hand stronger since I broke my wrist (last season) and I'm working on my point guard skills and making my shot more consistent."

Williams, who says he has grown four inches in the past year, grew up rooting for a local program.

"I grew up a fan of UCLA but I want to keep my options open," he said. "If UCLA is the best opportunity I would take that but if there's a better choice to me I would take that as well."

When Williams gets serious about his recruitment, he'll look for a number of attributes in a school.

"I want a school that I like the coaching staff, how they play, the location, a place where I can fit in and do what I do and a school that fits me," he said.
