Patience Pays Off for Delp

Pomona (Calif.) Diamond Ranch offensive lineman Kammy Delp waited patiently for UCLA to offer.

Delp camped with the Bruins in June and was solid at the UCLA Elite Camp.

But no offer came.

Still, he stayed in contact with offensive line coach Adrian Klemm, hoping an offer might come but resigning himself to the fact it might not come until after some senior film made its way to Klemm.

But Thursday evening, Delp called Klemm and got the news, surprising albeit good news, he'd been waiting for.

"I got the offer from UCLA and Coach Klemm," said Delp. "I was beyond surprised. I didn't think they were going to offer this soon or anything."

And Delp was thrilled with the offer and now wants to get up to Westwood this weekend.

"I was excited," said Delp. "I'm hoping to take an unofficial there this Saturday."

Delp said he was planning to visit UCLA this weekend to meet with Klemm and head coach Jim Mora and Klemm told him he was going to offer him then but decided to offer sooner.

"They were supposed to offer in person, but Coach Klemm was too excited and offered on the spot," said Delp.

Delp had waited to cut his list, to wait to see what the two local schools did. And he was content to wait until his season to see if the Bruins might offer.

"That's what I thought, that I had to wait for my film because they said they'll wait till my senior year and a few games in, but I guess tonight coach got all excited," said Delp.

Delp said his family was just as excited about the offer.

"My mom was crying and my pops was calling half my family about it," said Delp.

The versatile Delp, who was the OL MVP of the Oakland NFTC and was at The Opening last month, was offered as an offensive guard by Klemm. He's ranked as the No. 18 offensive guard nationally by Scout.com.

The Bruins join Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, California, Colorado, Fresno State, Nevada, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UCLA, Utah, Washington, and Washington State in offering Delp.
