"I like coach Martin a lot," Allen said. "He's a very good coach and Jim Mora is a former NFL DB coach so there's a lot of experience on the staff. I already had a great relationship with Coach Ulbrich and once I met Coach Martin, I knew I wanted to be a Bruin. He's a great guy I also know they have a big need for corners. I'm hoping to get in there and compete for playing time right away.
"I've never been out to UCLA before but I've heard nothing but great things. I was hoping to get out for an unofficial this summer but never could make it. I'm going to take an official visit for sure and I can't wait to see the campus and learn a lot more about the program."
Timing wise, Allen said he always wanted to make his decision before the season and get it out of the way. He added that he's already working on one of his high profile teammates.
"I didn't want to have any distractions during the year," Allen said. "My plan was to either commit early, in the summer or sometime during the season. Now I can focus on helping lead our team to a Championship without any distractions.
"Moving forward, I'm definitely working on Rashaan Evans and he has a lot of interest in UCLA. I'm sure we'll take our official visits to UCLA together and it would be great to play with him at the next level."
Allen measured out at the NIKE Camp in Georgia at a solid 5-11, 176 pounds. He clocked a 4.16 time in the shuttle and is considered more quick than fast and a solid overall athlete. He committed to UCLA over offers from Arizona, Arkansas State and Georgia State.
